The Hanuman Chalisa is a sacred 40-verse hymn composed in the Awadhi language by the 16th-century poet-saint Goswami Tulsidas. It is one of the most widely recited prayers in the Hindu tradition, especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Astrological Significance of Hanuman Chalisa
In Vedic Astrology (Jyotish), Lord Hanuman is the presiding deity of the planet Mars (Mangal) and the ultimate remedy for the challenging effects of Saturn (Shani).
- Saturn (Shani) Remedies: Worshipping Lord Hanuman is the most widely recommended remedy for people undergoing Saturn's major periods (Shani Mahadasha), Sade Sati (seven and a half years of Saturn transit), or Dhaiya (two and a half years transit). Astrological legend tells that Lord Hanuman rescued Shani Dev from Ravana's prison. In gratitude, Saturn promised that he would never trouble Hanuman's devotees.
- Mars (Mangal) Alignment: Reciting the Chalisa builds courage, willpower, and vitality, and helps mitigate Mars afflictions in the birth chart (such as Manglik Dosha).
Key Benefits of Recitation
- Overcoming Saturn Transits: Significantly reduces the delays, obstacles, and mental stress associated with unfavorable Saturn transits.
- Removes Fear and Anxiety: The high-vibration chants calm the nervous system, helping to banish fear, negativity, and anxious thoughts.
- Bestows Physical and Mental Strength: Verse 25 states: "Nasai rog harai sab peera, japat nirantar hanumat beera" (All diseases are cured and all pains vanish when the name of brave Hanuman is constantly chanted).
- Protection from Negative Energies: Creates a protective auric shield around the practitioner, shielding them from evil eyes and negative influences.
Best Practices for Reciting
- When to Recite: Tuesdays and Saturdays are particularly auspicious. It is best recited in the morning after a shower or in the evening.
- Frequency: Reciting it 1, 3, 7, 11, or 108 times depending on your spiritual practice.
- Focus: Place a picture of Lord Hanuman or Lord Rama in front of you, light a ghee lamp, and recite with complete devotion.
