What Lal Kitab is
Lal Kitab, the Red Book, is a set of five books in Urdu written between 1939 and 1952, traditionally attributed to Pt. Roop Chand Joshi. It is a separate branch of astrology from the Parashari kundli, known for reading planets by the house they sit in and for its simple, low-cost remedies called upay.
How a Lal Kitab chart differs
In a Lal Kitab chart the houses are tied to the signs: Aries is always the first house, Taurus the second, and so on. A planet's house is therefore the number of the sign it is in, whatever your ascendant is. Each planet also has one or more pakka (permanent) houses where it is traditionally at home.
The remedies are simple folk practices, such as feeding an animal or giving a particular item on a particular day. They are traditions, not guarantees, and none of them needs an expensive ritual.
A kundli is a traditional tool for reflection and guidance. It is not a prediction you must accept, and it does not replace medical, legal or financial advice.
Frequently asked questions
What is Lal Kitab?
Lal Kitab is a set of five Urdu books from 1939 to 1952 on a separate system of astrology. It reads each planet by the house it sits in and offers simple, low-cost remedies called upay.
How is a Lal Kitab kundli different from a normal kundli?
In a normal (Parashari) kundli the first house is your ascendant sign. In a Lal Kitab kundli Aries is always the first house, so each planet's house is simply the number of its sign. The planets are the same; only the houses are counted differently.
What is a pakka ghar in Lal Kitab?
Each planet has permanent houses where Lal Kitab treats it as strong and at home. The result table shows whether each of your planets sits in one of its pakka houses.
Are Lal Kitab remedies safe to follow?
The upay here are simple and inexpensive, such as acts of charity and feeding animals. They are folk traditions, not guarantees. Do not take on costly rituals or stop medical, legal or financial advice because of a chart reading.
Which remedies should I start with?
Start with the planets marked as a priority: the lords of the dasha running now and any planet that is weak in your chart. The remedies list puts them first.
Do I need my birth time for a Lal Kitab kundli?
The houses depend only on each planet's sign, so the birth time matters less than for an ascendant-based chart. It still matters for the Moon and for planets near a sign boundary, and for the running dasha, so use the most exact time you have.
Lal Kitab remedies work best when matched to your whole chart. Book a consultation for a reading of your kundli and simple, sensible upay.
