Business Name Numerology Calculator: Check Your Name Number
Business Name Numerology Calculator: Check Your Name Number
A business name numerology calculator converts each letter of your business name into a number using the Chaldean chart, adds them up, and reduces the total to a single "name number" from 1 to 9. That number is traditionally read for the tone the name carries, and it is compared with the owner's own birth numbers to see whether the two support each other. You can do it by hand in five minutes, and I'll show you how below.
A quick word before we start. A good name number won't run a business for you. Product, service and hard work do that. In my experience, numerology helps most at the shortlisting stage, when you already have three or four names you like and need a calm way to choose.
How a Company Name Numerology Calculator Works
Most Indian numerologists use the Chaldean system for names, and so does our calculator. Each letter carries a value from 1 to 8. The number 9 is traditionally kept sacred and is not given to any letter. For the full chart and the meaning of each number, see my guide to Chaldean numerology.
| Number | Letters |
|---|---|
| 1 | A, I, J, Q, Y |
| 2 | B, K, R |
| 3 | C, G, L, S |
| 4 | D, M, T |
| 5 | E, H, N, X |
| 6 | U, V, W |
| 7 | O, Z |
| 8 | F, P |
The steps:
- Write the name exactly as customers will see and say it, on the signboard, logo or website. Ignore spaces and punctuation.
- Give each letter its value from the chart.
- Add each word, then add the words together. The grand total is the compound number.
- Reduce to one digit. Add the digits of the total until you reach 1 to 9. This is the business name number.
- Note the compound number. In the Chaldean tradition, the two-digit total adds nuance. If the total is above 52, our calculator reduces it once more (for example 76 → 13) before reading the compound.
Should you count "Pvt Ltd" or "LLP"? I look first at the trading name, because that is what people say and remember. If you're curious, check the full registered name as a second layer.
What Each Business Name Number Suggests
These are traditional associations drawn from each number's ruling planet. Read them as tendencies, not promises.
- 1 (Sun): Leadership, authority and a strong founder identity. Often chosen for consulting, government-facing work and flagship brands.
- 2 (Moon): Care, hospitality and partnership. It fits food, dairy, healthcare, counselling and businesses built on trust and relationships.
- 3 (Jupiter): Knowledge and guidance. Education, coaching, finance, publishing and advisory firms are traditional fits.
- 4 (Rahu): Unconventional thinking, technology and disruption. It is associated with IT, engineering and start-ups, and traditional numerologists suggest a steady hand with it.
- 5 (Mercury): Trade, communication and movement. It is a popular choice for retail, sales, media, marketing and trading businesses.
- 6 (Venus): Beauty, comfort and goodwill. It suits fashion, jewellery, interiors, hospitality, the arts and wedding services.
- 7 (Ketu): Depth, research and specialisation. It fits research, healing, analytics, spiritual work and niche expert services.
- 8 (Saturn): Structure, endurance and long-term building. It is associated with manufacturing, real estate, law and infrastructure, and it is often approached with caution in traditional practice.
- 9 (Mars): Energy, courage and action. It fits fitness, sports, construction, security, energy and property work.
Worked Example: Comparing Three Versions of One Name
Let's take a fictional tea and snacks brand. The owner, born on 23 March 1985, is choosing between three versions of the same idea.
Owner's birth numbers
- Mulank: 23 → 2 + 3 = 5 (Mercury)
- Bhagyank: 2 + 3 + 0 + 3 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 5 = 31 → 3 + 1 = 4 (Rahu)
Option A: Saffron Leaf
- SAFFRON: S3 + A1 + F8 + F8 + R2 + O7 + N5 = 34
- LEAF: L3 + E5 + A1 + F8 = 17
- Total: 34 + 17 = 51 → 5 + 1 = 6 (Venus)
Option B: Saffron Leaf Studio
- STUDIO: S3 + T4 + U6 + D4 + I1 + O7 = 25
- Total: 34 + 17 + 25 = 76 → 7 + 6 = 13 → 1 + 3 = 4 (Rahu). Compound read as 13.
Option C: Saffron Leaf Studios
- STUDIOS: 25 + S3 = 28
- Total: 34 + 17 + 28 = 79 → 7 + 9 = 16 → 1 + 6 = 7 (Ketu). Compound read as 16.
How each sits with the owner (Mulank 5, Bhagyank 4)
| Option | Name number | With Mulank 5 | With Bhagyank 4 | My reading |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Saffron Leaf | 6 | Harmonious (Venus and Mercury are mutual friends) | Harmonious | A strong fit, and 51 is a compound the Chaldean tradition reads favourably |
| Saffron Leaf Studio | 4 | Harmonious | Same as Bhagyank | Also a good fit. 13 is read as a mixed compound |
| Saffron Leaf Studios | 7 | Neutral | Neutral | Workable, but 16 is a compound Cheiro's tradition reads with caution |
Look at how one letter, a final "s", moved the name from 4 to 7. That is why I always suggest checking every version you might actually print, including the plural. You can compare several shortlisted names in one go on the business and baby name checker.
In this case, I would steer the owner towards "Saffron Leaf" or "Saffron Leaf Studio" and then let practical things decide: domain availability, trademark search, and which one customers find easier to say.
Balancing the Business Name With the Owner's Birth Number
The name number is only half the reading. The other half is the person behind the business.
- Check both Mulank and Bhagyank. The Mulank reflects day-to-day temperament. The Bhagyank reflects long-term direction.
- Aim for friendly or neutral, not perfect. A name that is harmonious with one number and neutral with the other is a sound choice.
- Avoid clear clashes. If the name number's planet is hostile to both of your numbers, try a small, natural variation first.
- Partnerships need a wider look. With two or more partners, I usually prefer a name number that is at least neutral for everyone over one that is ideal for only one person.
- Don't force awkward spellings. A name customers can't spell will cost you more in searches and word of mouth than any number can give back.
A Simple Way to Choose
A business name numerology calculator does something simple: it turns letters into a number and checks how that number gets along with you. Use it to compare a shortlist, check every spelling you might print, and choose a name that is easy to say and protect.
Start by finding your own Mulank and Bhagyank with our free numerology calculator, then compare several shortlisted names at once on the business and baby name checker. If you want a deeper look at your numbers, including your strongest months for launches and big decisions, the ₹299 full numerology report covers that.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate my business name number?
Write the business name as customers see it and give each letter its Chaldean value. Add everything together and reduce the total to a single digit from 1 to 9. That digit is the business name number, and the two-digit total before it is the compound number.
Is a company name numerology calculator different from a personal name calculator?
The letter values and arithmetic are the same. The difference is in the reading: for a business, the name number is matched with the owner's or partners' birth numbers and with the nature of the trade. A personal name is read mainly against the person's own Mulank and Bhagyank.
Which number is best for a business name?
No single number is best for every business. Numbers 5 and 6 are popular because Mercury and Venus are associated with trade and goodwill, but the right number is one that suits the nature of your work and sits comfortably with your birth numbers.
Should I include "Pvt Ltd" or "LLP" in the calculation?
I look first at the trading name, the one on your signboard and website, because that is the name people actually use. You can check the full registered name as a second layer if you like, but don't let it override a strong trading name.
Can a lucky name numerology calculator guarantee business success?
No. Numerology is a reflective tool that can help you choose between names you already like. Success depends on your product, service, pricing, timing and effort, and no name or number can promise results.
