When Will I Get Married According to Kundli? A Clear Guide to Marriage Timing

ByPublished:16 min read

Families ask it, friends ask it, and late at night you type it yourself: "Shaadi Kab Hogi Kundli Se". Waiting for marriage can feel heavier than waiting for a job, because so much of life seems to hang on one answer. Vedic astrology can help here, as long as you know what a kundli can show about marriage timing and what it cannot.

What can a kundli say about when you will get married?

A kundli shows marriage timing as windows, not exact wedding dates. The promise is read from the 7th house, its lord, Venus and Jupiter, and the Navamsa (D9). Vimshottari dasha shows when that promise becomes active, and Jupiter and Saturn transits confirm the period. Your choices, family situation and effort still decide the result. That is the honest answer to "Shaadi Kab Hogi Kundli Se".

What a kundli can and cannot say about marriage

Before we go into houses and dashas, it is worth being clear about the limits. A good reading gives you direction and timing. It does not replace a real relationship or a family's decisions.

What it can show

  • The promise of partnership. Whether the chart supports marriage, and roughly what kind of bond is emphasised (steady, delayed, sudden, or unconventional).
  • Favourable periods. Dasha and antardasha periods when marriage houses and their lords become active.
  • Supporting transits. When slow planets like Jupiter and Saturn move over or aspect your 7th house or its lord, giving a period extra push.
  • The flavour of the match. Planets linked to the 7th and to Venus hint at temperament, values and how the relationship tends to begin (introduction, love, long wait, foreign connection).
  • Periods of pressure. Times when delays, tests or family friction are more likely, so you can plan with patience instead of panic.

What it cannot show

  • An exact wedding date or a partner's full name. Astrology describes periods and themes, not the day the pheras happen.
  • A result without human effort. A strong dasha helps someone who is open to meeting people, talking and deciding. It cannot create a marriage alone.
  • Certainty from a wrong birth time. Lagna, the 7th house and especially the Navamsa can shift with a small error in birth time, so the reading is only as good as the data.
  • A one-planet verdict. No single yoga, Mangal Dosha label or transit decides marriage on its own. The whole chart has to agree.
  • A guarantee. Even a clear window is individual to your chart. Two people with similar charts can marry years apart because life circumstances differ.

The houses that show marriage

Marriage in Jyotish is not read from one house. A few houses work together, and the Moon chart and Navamsa add further views.

  • 7th house (Jaya / Kalatra bhava). This is the main house of marriage, spouse, partnerships and one-to-one bonds. Its sign, its lord, planets placed in it and planets aspecting it tell you a great deal about how marriage appears in your life.
  • 2nd house (Dhana / Kutumba bhava). Family, speech and shared resources. Marriage joins two families; the 2nd often shows when the household topic becomes real.
  • 11th house (Labha bhava). Gains, fulfilment of desires and social circles. When the 11th joins the 7th in a dasha, wishes and introductions often turn into results.
  • 4th house. Emotional security, home and mother/family comfort. A settled marriage usually needs the 4th to agree with the 7th over time.
  • 8th and 12th (with care). Shared life, intimacy, in-laws and leaving the parental home. These houses colour marriage; they do not by themselves "deny" it.

A simple way to remember it: the 7th is the bond, the 2nd is family, and the 11th is the fulfilment. When the dasha lords connect two or more of these houses, marriage events become more likely.

The 7th from the Moon. Classical astrologers also read the chart from the Moon sign (Chandra lagna). The 7th house counted from the Moon, its lord and planets in it give a second, more personal view of relationships. If both the lagna chart and the Moon chart support a period, the reading is much stronger. For a refresher on all twelve houses, read our guide to the twelve houses (bhavas) in Vedic astrology.

Planets for marriage

Every planet can play a role in the right period, but a few carry special weight for marriage timing.

  • Venus (Shukra). The natural karaka of love, marriage, comfort and attraction for everyone. A well-supported Venus linked to the 7th house often eases partnership themes. A stressed Venus does not mean "no marriage"; it asks for more care in how you choose and commit.
  • Jupiter (Guru). Wisdom, dharma, blessings and expansion. For a woman's chart, classical texts give Jupiter special weight as a karaka of the husband; in every chart Jupiter's aspect protects and widens opportunities. Jupiter periods and Jupiter transits are among the most watched marriage triggers.
  • The 7th lord. Whatever planet rules your 7th house becomes a personal marriage timer. Its mahadasha and antardasha are classic windows when the 7th topic rises.
  • Moon. Mind, timing sensitivity and emotional readiness. The Moon's condition and the 7th from the Moon often show when you feel ready for a bond.
  • Saturn (Shani). Saturn linked to the 7th often means later, more serious or more durable marriage — delay is not denial. What Saturn gives tends to last when the rest of the chart agrees.
  • Mars (Mangal). Drive, courage and conflict. Mars on the 7th or related points is discussed as Mangal Dosha in matching; it is common, has many classical exceptions, and is a matching topic more than a "never marry" stamp. Check our free Mangal Dosha calculator for the placement, then read it in full context.
  • Rahu. Sudden, unconventional or cross-cultural openings. Rahu does not act alone; read it through its sign, dispositor and houses. In a supportive chart, Rahu periods can bring an unexpected proposal or a partner from a different background.

Darakaraka. In the Jaimini approach, the Darakaraka is the planet with the lowest degrees in your chart (excluding some nodes depending on the school). Many astrologers use it as an extra significator of the spouse. It is a useful cross-check, not a replacement for the 7th house and Venus.

The Navamsa (D9) is the main divisional chart for marriage and the "fruit" of the birth chart. Astrologers look at:

  • the Navamsa lagna and its lord,
  • the 7th house in Navamsa and its lord,
  • Venus (and Jupiter) in Navamsa,
  • whether a dasha lord that looks strong in the birth chart is also dignified in D9.

When the birth chart (D1) and Navamsa both support the same window, timing is firmer. When they disagree, a careful reader slows down and weighs both. Navamsa changes quickly with birth time — often every 10–15 minutes — so an uncertain birth time makes D9 conclusions provisional. You can cast yours with our free Navamsa chart calculator.

How to time marriage: dasha first, transit second

Timing in Jyotish works in two layers. The Vimshottari dasha system is the main clock, and transits act as the trigger.

Dasha of marriage significators

Look at the mahadasha and antardasha running now and in the next few years (after the socially usual ages for your context). Marriage events tend to come when the dasha or antardasha lord is:

  • the lord of the 7th house,
  • Venus or Jupiter (especially when tied to the 7th),
  • placed in the 7th, 2nd or 11th house,
  • aspecting the 7th house or its lord,
  • sitting in the nakshatra of one of these lords, or
  • the Navamsa lagna lord or Navamsa 7th lord.

The more of these links the period has, the stronger it is. For example, a Venus mahadasha with a 7th-lord antardasha, where Venus also rules or aspects the 7th, is the kind of combination that often brings engagement talks or a wedding window. If you do not know your current periods, our free dasha calculator lists them.

Jupiter and Saturn transits as confirmation

Once a dasha looks promising, check the two slow planets. Jupiter spends about a year in each sign and Saturn about two and a half years. When Jupiter, by placement or by aspect, touches the 7th house or the 7th lord from the lagna or from the Moon, astrologers watch that year closely for marriage. When Saturn also supports the same points, many modern practitioners call it a double transit confirmation — useful, though it is a later teaching layered on classical methods.

Remember the special aspects. Jupiter aspects the 5th, 7th and 9th houses from itself. Saturn aspects the 3rd, 7th and 10th. You can follow current movements on our planetary transits page, check exact degrees in the daily ephemeris, and read more about Saturn's role in Saturn transit effects.

Rule of thumb: dasha activates the promise, transit triggers the event. A good transit without a supporting dasha usually passes as mild interest. A good dasha without transit support tends to work slowly until the transits line up.

Simple step-by-step: check marriage timing in your kundli

You can do a basic version of this yourself. Here is the order to follow.

  1. Make a free kundli. Use your exact date, time and place of birth in our free kundli tool. Check the birth time with family records if you can.
  2. Note the lagna, the 7th lord and Venus. Write down your ascendant, the sign on the 7th house, its lord, Venus, Jupiter, and any planets in or aspecting the 7th. Also note the 2nd and 11th lords.
  3. Open the Navamsa. Check D9 lagna lord, D9 7th lord and Venus in D9 with the Navamsa calculator.
  4. Check the current mahadasha and antardasha. See whether the running lords are connected to the 7th, Venus, Jupiter, the 2nd or 11th, or the Navamsa marriage points.
  5. Check Jupiter (and Saturn) transit. Find which houses they occupy from your lagna and Moon, and whether they aspect the 7th house or its lord. Confirm degrees on the ephemeris if you want precision.
  6. Narrow to a window. Where a supportive antardasha overlaps with a supportive transit, mark those months or years. That overlap is your likely window. Sometimes there is more than one.
  7. If a match is under discussion, run gun milan. Timing for a couple is stronger when both charts open in the same calendar years. Use kundli matching (Guna Milan) as a compatibility check — it does not replace timing, but it shows how the two charts sit together.

Early marriage, delay, love vs arranged, second marriage

The same chart answers different marriage questions in slightly different ways.

  • Earlier windows. Strong, unafflicted 7th lord and Venus, early dashas of those planets after adulthood, and supportive Jupiter transits often bring earlier opportunities. "Early" is relative to your culture and family.
  • Delay (not denial). Saturn, a weak or heavily contested 7th, or late dashas of marriage planets often push the window later. Delay usually means more deliberate timing, not "you will never marry."
  • Love vs arranged lean. Charts do not stamp one label forever. 5th-house links (romance), Rahu themes (unusual meetings) and 7th/2nd/11th family activation show leanings. Real life mixes both paths often.
  • Second marriage themes. The 8th and 9th, certain Darakaraka/Upapada techniques, and later dashas are used by specialists. This is chart-specific and easy to misuse; treat internet "rules" with caution and get a full reading if this is your question.
  • Choosing a wedding date. That is muhurta, chosen after the relationship is real. See our marriage muhurat pages once you have a window and a partner — muhurta does not create the marriage window by itself.

Common mistakes when reading marriage timing

  • Reading one planet in isolation. "Saturn in my 7th means no marriage" is not a reading. Its sign, lord, aspects and the dasha decide its effect.
  • Treating Mangal Dosha as a life ban. It is widespread, has many cancellations, and belongs in matching conversations — not as a fear slogan.
  • Ignoring the dasha. Transits get attention because they are in the news, but without the dasha they rarely deliver marriage by themselves.
  • Using date of birth only. Without birth time (and place), lagna and the 7th lord are guesswork. Calculators that ask only for a date cannot honestly time marriage from the 7th house.
  • Expecting an exact date. Even a careful reading gives a window of months or a couple of years. Use it to stay open and practical, not to wait passively.
  • Stopping life because "the time is bad". A quieter period is a time to grow emotionally, settle work and clarify what you want, so you are ready when the next good window opens.
  • Paying for fear. Avoid anyone who says marriage is "blocked" and only an expensive ritual can fix it.

Practical remedies and what actually helps

Remedies in Jyotish are meant to bring your behaviour in line with the planets that support partnership. They are not a guarantee, and no honest astrologer will promise a wedding in a fixed number of days.

  • Venus: care, fairness and beauty in daily life. Treat partners and potential partners with respect. Keep promises. Simple Friday practices, charity related to women's welfare, or calm Venus mantras suit some people — only if they feel sincere, not fearful.
  • Jupiter: guidance and good conduct. Seek elders' advice, keep learning, and act with honesty in relationships. Supporting a teacher's or student's education is a classic Jupiter-aligned act.
  • Saturn: patience and responsibility. Show up consistently. Take family duties seriously without bitterness. If Saturn is loud in your chart right now, our post on what Shani Sade Sati really means puts pressure periods in perspective.
  • Real-world remedies. Update how you meet people, clarify what you want, heal old patterns, and involve family when appropriate. These change outcomes more than any shortcut.
  • No fear, no pressure. Gemstones are powerful and can harm if chosen wrongly, so wear one only after a full chart review, never as a quick fix for marriage. Most people do not need one at all.

Frequently asked questions

Which house shows marriage in kundli?

The 7th house is the main house of marriage and spouse. The 2nd (family) and 11th (gains and fulfilment) often join the picture. Also check the 7th house from the Moon and the Navamsa (D9) 7th house. Read them together, not as isolated stamps.

Which dasha gives marriage?

No single dasha guarantees marriage. Periods of the 7th lord, Venus, Jupiter, planets in or aspecting the 7th, and key Navamsa lords are classically watched. The full chart decides, not one planet.

Can kundli tell the exact date of marriage?

No. A kundli shows windows, often months to a couple of years long, when dasha and transits support marriage. Within that window, people, family and decisions decide the actual date. Wedding muhurta comes later.

Does Mangal Dosha stop marriage?

Not by itself. Mangal Dosha is common, has many classical exceptions, and is mainly a matching consideration. A full chart and proper gun milan matter more than the label alone.

Does Saturn in the 7th house mean late marriage only?

Saturn on or linked to the 7th often correlates with later or more serious timing, and with durability when marriage does happen. It is not a blanket ban. The dasha sequence and the rest of the chart matter more than one placement.

When will I get married if I am already past the "usual" age?

Look for the next antardasha that connects the 7th, Venus or Jupiter with the 2nd or 11th, and check whether Jupiter (and Saturn) support your 7th house at that time. Use the waiting period to clarify what you want and to stay socially open, so you are ready when that window arrives. An individual reading beats any generic age rule.

Find your own marriage window

Your kundli does not decide whether you deserve a marriage. It shows when the conditions are most in your favour. Make your free kundli, note your 7th lord and Venus, check your running dasha, and glance at the Navamsa. If a match is already being discussed, run kundli matching. For a quick question you can ask Lagna, our AI astrologer. For a detailed look at your marriage periods, you can book a consultation. Stay open, stay kind to yourself, and use the good windows well.
