Marriage Timing in a Kundli: 7th House, Venus, Jupiter, Dasha and Double Transit
When Will I Get Married? How a Kundli Shows Marriage Timing
Marriage timing in a kundli is read in two layers. First the birth chart has to promise marriage through the 7th house, its lord, Venus and the Navamsa. Then the timing is narrowed by the Vimshottari dasha of a planet tied to the 7th house, and confirmed when Jupiter and Saturn together influence the 7th house or 7th lord by transit.
"When will I get married?" is one of the most common questions put to an astrologer, and this two-step method (promise, then dasha, then transit) is the honest answer to how it is approached. The rest of this guide walks through each layer.
One caution before the details. A chart can show periods when marriage is more or less supported, not a fixed date. Real timing depends on readiness, family, finances, meeting the right person and many things no chart records. Please do not rush into marriage, or put your life on hold, because of an astrological reading.
Which houses and planets show marriage in a kundli?
You need an accurate birth chart for any of this; if you do not have one, generate a free kundli with your exact birth time first.
The 7th house (Kalatra bhava)
The 7th house is the house of marriage and partnership. Astrologers look at:
- the sign on the 7th house
- the planets in it and aspecting it
- the 7th lord and where it sits
For the full meaning of each house, see the 12 houses explained, and find your Lagna with the Lagna guide, since the 7th house is counted from it.
Venus and Jupiter (the karakas)
Karakas are natural significators. Traditionally:
- Venus signifies love, attraction and partnership in general.
- Jupiter signifies blessings and, in classical texts, the husband in a woman's chart.
Many modern astrologers read both Venus and Jupiter as supportive indicators for anyone's marriage, regardless of gender. See Venus in the 12 houses and Jupiter in the 12 houses.
The Navamsa (D9) chart
The Navamsa is a divisional chart used to examine marriage and the quality of partnership in more depth. Astrologers check the Navamsa Lagna, the 7th house there, the 7th lord of the D9 and the dignity of Venus. A Venus that is weak in the birth chart but well placed in the Navamsa is usually read more kindly. You can view yours with the Navamsa chart calculator; the D9 is sensitive to birth time, so an error of even a few minutes can change it.
The secondary houses
The 2nd house (family) and 11th house (fulfilment of wishes) are also looked at, because marriage adds a person to the family and fulfils a hope.
Which dasha brings marriage?
The most commonly used timing tool is the Vimshottari Dasha. Use the dasha calculator to see which mahadasha and antardasha you are running and when they change. Marriage is traditionally considered more likely in the mahadasha or antardasha of:
- the 7th lord
- Venus
- Jupiter
- the lord of the 2nd or 11th house
- a planet that occupies or aspects the 7th house
- the lord of the Lagna in some schools
The reasoning is that a planet connected to the 7th house activates it when its period runs. It is more convincing when the mahadasha and antardasha lords are both related to the 7th house and Venus or Jupiter. Rahu and Ketu periods can also deliver marriage when the node sits in the 7th house or with the 7th lord, since the nodes give the results of the house and planets they are linked with.
How does the Jupiter-Saturn double transit time marriage?
Transits (gochar) refine the timing within a dasha. A widely used modern rule is the Jupiter-Saturn double transit:
Marriage is considered more likely when Jupiter and Saturn both influence the 7th house or its lord at the same time by transit, either by occupying it or by aspecting it, counted from the Lagna (and checked again from the Moon).
To apply it you need the aspects of the two planets. Both aspect the 7th sign from themselves. In addition, Jupiter aspects the 5th and 9th signs from where it stands, and Saturn aspects the 3rd and 10th. So if your 7th house is Libra, Jupiter "touches" it while transiting Libra, Aries, Gemini or Aquarius, and Saturn while transiting Libra, Aries, Cancer or Capricorn.
Because Jupiter spends about a year in a sign and Saturn about two and a half, this overlap comes around fairly often, and it applies to everyone with the same Lagna. That is why practitioners treat the dasha as the window and the double transit as the trigger: a double transit without a supporting dasha is usually read as a period of proposals or talks rather than a wedding. For where the slow planets are heading next, see the 2027 transits overview.
Why marriage may seem delayed
Traditional texts list several patterns that are said to delay or complicate marriage. The most common are:
- Saturn in or aspecting the 7th house or its lord. Saturn is slow and tends to bring marriage later, often to a mature or serious partner. See Saturn in the 12 houses.
- Rahu or Ketu in the 7th house, bringing confusion, unusual circumstances or detachment. See Rahu and Ketu.
- Mars in a Manglik house. See What is Manglik Dosh.
- A weak, combust or afflicted Venus or 7th lord. See combust planets.
- Running dashas of planets unrelated to the 7th house.
None of these means marriage will not happen. Most delays in modern life have practical causes: education, career, finances, family expectations and the time it takes to find the right person.
Can astrology predict your marriage age?
Not as a number. "Marriage age prediction" online usually means a calculator that maps Saturn or Venus placements to an age bracket, and those brackets come from rough traditional associations: Venus or Jupiter strongly linked to the 7th house is read as earlier, Saturn's influence on the 7th house or its lord as later. Neither is a rule you can set a clock by.
What a careful reading can do is list the dasha-and-transit windows over the next several years that look supportive, and say which looks stronger. If the chart shows Saturn's influence, the useful message is usually that a later or slower-moving marriage tends to be steadier, not that something is wrong.
What an astrologer might tell you, and how to hear it
When an astrologer discusses your marriage timing, a good reading usually includes:
- the periods that look supportive and the periods that look slower
- the kind of qualities the chart associates with partnership
- practical advice, not just a date
Be careful of anyone who:
- states a precise date with certainty
- claims you must marry by a certain age
- uses fear or guilt to sell a ritual
- says a particular person is or is not "right" for you based on a chart alone
For matching with a specific person, see kundli matching and Nadi and Bhakoot Dosh. If you want your own windows worked out from dasha and transits, that is what a marriage astrology consultation covers.
What helps in real life
Marriage is a decision between people, so these matter at least as much as any chart:
- Know what you want and what you can offer.
- Meet people through family, friends and trusted channels.
- Communicate honestly about values, finances, children, work and family expectations.
- Do not rush or accept pressure. A good marriage is more important than a timely one.
- Be open to counselling, including pre-marital counselling.
- Take time for yourself. Being content on your own makes you a better partner later.
Spiritual practices some families follow
These are optional and traditional:
- Friday prayers to Lakshmi, and reading the Shukra Chalisa. See Venus remedies.
- Thursday prayers for Jupiter, as described in the planet stotra guide.
- If Mars is a concern, see Mangal Dosha remedies.
Treat these as a source of calm, not as a transaction.
Choosing the wedding date
Once a marriage is decided, the wedding date and time are chosen by muhurat. See the muhurat guide and the panchang guide.

Book a consultationFrequently Asked Questions
Can astrology predict the exact date of marriage?
No. It can show periods that are more or less supportive, using the 7th house, dasha and transits. Exact dates cannot be predicted reliably.
Which dasha is good for marriage?
The mahadasha or antardasha of the 7th lord, Venus, Jupiter or the lord of the 2nd or 11th house, especially when connected to the 7th house.
What is the double transit for marriage?
When Jupiter and Saturn both influence the 7th house or its lord by transit at the same time, by occupying or aspecting it, counted from the Lagna or the Moon. It works as a trigger only when the running dasha also supports marriage.
Does Saturn in the 7th house delay marriage?
Often traditionally, yes, and it may bring a mature partner. But the effect varies, and many factors affect timing.
Should I wait for a good dasha to marry?
No. Use astrology as one input, not a reason to postpone or rush a decision. Personal readiness and compatibility matter more.
At what age will I get married according to my kundli?
A kundli cannot give a reliable age. It can point to supportive dasha periods and Jupiter-Saturn transit windows, and Saturn's link with the 7th house is traditionally read as a later marriage.
